I doubt you are as dumbfounded as me. To make an analogy for people who don't live in Alaska, it's similar to this situation:

Say you live in Alabama and suddenly you hear that the mayor of Arab (which in this scenario happens to be the crystal meth capital of Alabama) has become governor. It turns out that they are not really a bad governor, although all of their time is taken up by one or two issues, so there isn't much to gauge by. But THEN you wake up one day and after determining that your yahoo news page has not been hacked after all, realize that somehow, while you were sleeping, they are now running for Vice President of the United States. And they say things like "I've got plenty of Middle East experience because I was mayor of Arab Alabama! Get it A-Rab? Are you with me???"

I didn't find out until the media started actually investigating her what a super religious nutjob she is. I also didn't know how much politics is part of extremist religious churches. I had no idea preachers would tell people they would burn in hell if they didn't vote for the right candidate. I'm more scared than ever of religious people now...
